Na’Conxypan Gallery – Where Art and Education Meet in Berehove
In 2024, the Na’Conxypan Gallery opened its doors on the campus of Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University. The gallery takes its name from the imaginary dream world created by the Hungarian painter Lajos Gulácsy. Na’Conxypan, envisioned by the artist, is a fantastical realm interwoven with Art Nouveau and Rococo motifs, offering refuge from the hardships of reality. The gallery carries forward this spirit by creating a cultural space where art not only inspires aesthetic appreciation but also encourages reflection, dialogue, and learning.
The mission of the gallery is to create a meeting point between cultural heritage and contemporary art in the heart of Berehove. The exhibition space offers visitors a retreat from everyday life while serving as a platform for artists from both within and beyond national borders. Programmes are conducted in both Hungarian and Ukrainian, enabling the gallery to function as a cultural bridge between communities.
The Na’Conxypan Gallery serves not only as an exhibition venue but also as an important educational and pedagogical environment. It holds particular significance for students of the Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, Primary Education, Preschool Education and Educational Institution Management, who are provided with opportunities to gain firsthand experience in the practical application of art education. For students enrolled in Preschool Education and Primary Education programmes, the gallery offers a unique learning environment in which they can broaden their pedagogical knowledge and acquire practical skills in museum education, arts-based learning, and the organization of creative educational activities for children.
Through museum education programmes, students and young visitors can engage directly with works of art, experience the creative process, and develop a deeper understanding of the ideas and messages conveyed by artistic works. In this way, the gallery contributes to the development of visual literacy, fosters creative thinking, and strengthens cultural identity.
The Na’Conxypan Gallery is therefore more than a venue for displaying art; it is also a space for community learning and personal development. It is a place where, at the intersection of imagination and reality, everyone can find inspiration and refuge—whether as an artist, a student, or an interested visitor.
Sports Activities
The Sports and Health Centre of Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University considers the promotion of a health-conscious lifestyle and the active involvement of students in sports to be among its key priorities. The issue of healthy living among young people has gained particular importance in recent years, as the preservation and promotion of health constitute an integral part of general education and personal development. The Centre’s activities are aimed at shaping the personalities of future educators, integrating sport and healthy lifestyle practices into their professional culture, and reinforcing the values and attitudes associated with active living.
In cooperation with the József Zupkó Health and Sports Centre and with the involvement of its academic staff, the Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, Primary Education, Preschool Education and Educational Institution Management offers a range of elective sports activities, including handball, basketball, volleyball, aerobics, football, and other sports. During the 2024–2025 academic year, more than one hundred students participated in these activities. According to institutional regulations, students may receive elective course credits for their participation in these optional sports programmes.
Students of the Department have regularly taken part in these activities. Their participation is significant not only for their personal development but also for achieving the educational objectives of the Department, as future educators must serve as role models in promoting healthy lifestyles. Active engagement in sports enables students to encourage children and young people to participate in physical activity in a credible and effective manner, while also developing teamwork, communication, and leadership skills that are essential in teacher education.
For students enrolled in Preschool Education and Primary Education programmes, it is particularly important to experience during their studies how sport and healthy lifestyle practices can be used as educational tools. These experiences can later be applied directly in their professional careers and educational work.
Numerous mass sporting events and memorial tournaments are organized annually, providing students with opportunities to test their abilities, monitor their progress and achievements, and gain valuable community experiences. The University’s representative teams have achieved notable success in regional and international competitions, earning podium finishes in several sports disciplines over the years and representing the institution with distinction both nationally and internationally.
