The university had long planned to establish a high-altitude research base and field practice site. In 2016, Professor István Buczkó, Head of the Department of Biology and Chemistry, donated his country house and a 1,333 $m^2$ plot of land to the institution. The site is located in the village of Lypovets’ at the foot of the Polonyna Runa mountain range. The original dilapidated structure was demolished and replaced with a new building capable of accommodating approximately 50 people.
The facility provides an excellent venue for summer field practices for students from the Department of Geography and Tourism and the Department of Biology. Additionally, the base serves as a vital location for researchers from the Fodor István Research Centre for Natural Sciences, enabling them to stay for extended periods while conducting thematic field studies and exploring the unique natural treasures of the Polonyna Runa massif.
