In October 2026, Dr Ruth Karin Lévai, a lecturer at the Department of English Language and Literature, Institute of Modern Philology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Miskolc, visited Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University as a visiting lecturer within the framework of the Makovecz Programme.
During her academic visit, Dr Lévai delivered a series of lectures entitled “Slave Narratives and Overcoming the Trauma of Enslavement (Douglass, Jacobs, Wilson and Stowe)” to students of the English section of the Philology Department. The lecture series explored the literary and historical significance of American slave narratives, with particular emphasis on the literary representation of the trauma of enslavement. The topic offered students an opportunity to examine major works of American literature in the context of historical memory, identity and social justice.
During her stay at our university, Dr Lévai also delivered a series of academic lectures to students enrolled in the joint double degree programme with the University of Miskolc, thereby contributing to the enrichment of the programme’s academic and educational content.
Guest lecturer visits organised under the Makovecz Programme provide valuable opportunities to strengthen international cooperation in higher education and enable our students to engage with new academic perspectives and explore a wider range of research fields.
