Lowland Base for Field Practices and Open-Air School

A II. Rákóczi Ferenc Kárpátaljai Magyar Főiskola nagydobronyi kutatóbázisa

The Velyka Dobron’research base of the Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University, known as the Forest School, was inaugurated in 2020 on the outskirts of Velyka Dobron’, in the heart of the Velyka Dobron’ Wildlife Reserve.

The facility was established with several key objectives:

  • To serve as a field practice site for students of the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University.
  • To organize environmental and nature education sessions for children.
  • To host the Nature Conservation and Natural History Camp of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Pedagogical Association.
  • To provide a permanent research base for studying the natural treasures of Transcarpathia’s lowland region.
  • To create a recreational area for those who love and wish to explore nature.

Facilities

The facility can accommodate up to 60 people.

  • The “hostel”-style rooms are suitable for smaller groups; they are equipped with bunk beds, accommodate 4–8 people, and have shared bathrooms.
  • The “comfort” rooms are suitable for families, accommodating up to 3 people and featuring a private bathroom.

The kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Additionally, there is a covered fireplace in the courtyard designed for baking and cooking. The facility also includes a larger lecture hall with a capacity of approximately 30 people and a smaller hall for about 15 people. In the courtyard, there is a gazebo that can accommodate up to 60 people.

Activities and Programs

Equipment for various leisure activities can also be rented or borrowed, including bows, a table tennis table, a volleyball court, board games, canoes, and boats.

Upon prior arrangement, organized professional programs can be provided for smaller groups.

The venue is ideal for hosting one-day or multi-day programs for school groups, groups of friends, family events, and corporate teams. It is also an excellent location for organizing camps.
