Institutional history exhibition opened at the University of Rakoczi

Thirty years of history came to life on October 29 at Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University, where an institutional history exhibition opened on the occasion of the university’s jubilee. Through old photographs, documents, and artifacts once in use, the exhibition recalled the three-decade history of the institution while also offering a taste of the present: items that remain an integral part of everyday university life today were also featured. Thus, the display cases held not merely memorabilia, but brought to life key moments in the history of a community.

At the opening, guests were welcomed by István Csernicskó, Rector of our university. In his address, he humorously remarked that for its 30th anniversary, the institution had even received a museum.

“We turned thirty, and we’ve already ended up in a museum,”

he said.

He further emphasized that establishing an institutional museum is not a sign of aging, but proof that there is something worth remembering. He highlighted that the exhibition should present not only the official history of the institution, but also the stories of the people who created, managed, and developed the university over the past three decades.

“The history of the university is not only the history of rectors, presidents, department heads, and professors, but also of those who shaped the daily life of the institution,”

he stated.

György Dancs, Associate Professor at the university’s Department of History and Social Sciences and curator of the exhibition, expressed his gratitude to everyone for their active participation in realizing the display.

“The exhibition opening today brings into focus these 30 years—full of struggles, yet deeply inspiring,”

he said.

Following the opening remarks, attendees toured the exhibition, viewing key documents, period photographs, personal memories, and physical relics from the past three decades.
