On July 8, 2026, Prof. Nina Poyda-Nosyk and Prof. V.K. Makarovych from the Department of Accounting and Auditing took part in the international EASE Ukraine webinar “Development of Scientific Communication in Ukraine: Publication Ethics, Journal Quality, and Integration into the European Research Area”.
The webinar served as a professional platform for discussing pressing issues in the development of scientific communication and the improvement of scientific journal quality in line with European standards. The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine, as well as experts from international organizations including COPE, EASE, DOAJ, and the European Diamond Capacity Hub.
During the webinar, participants were introduced to the main directions of state policy reform in the field of scientific publishing. Considerable attention was devoted to the implementation of the journals module within the National Electronic Scientific Information System (URIS), which digitalizes the submission process, monitors the activities of professional scientific journals, and evaluates their compliance with current requirements. Speakers also presented new approaches to compiling Ukraine’s List of Professional Scientific Publications, emphasizing the use of international standards, digital identifiers, open access principles, and transparent editorial practices.
A separate thematic block was devoted to issues of academic integrity and publication ethics. Participants discussed current challenges related to questionable publishing practices, and examined approaches to organizing quality peer review, developing effective editorial policy, applying text-similarity checking tools, and using artificial intelligence in scholarly work.
COPE experts presented current approaches to ensuring the integrity of scientific publications and highlighted principles of transparency in publishing activity. EASE representatives introduced participants to opportunities for professional support available to editors and editorial boards, while DOAJ specialists outlined the criteria that quality open-access journals must meet.
Particular attention was paid to the development of diamond open access as a promising model for academic publishing and its importance for enhancing the international visibility of Ukrainian scientific journals.
Participation in the webinar contributed to deepening knowledge of current international standards in editorial policy and the development of open science, and to improving the quality of scientific publications — an important component of the university’s research activity and its integration into the European Research Area.
