The mission of the Lehoczky Tivadar Research Centre for Social Sciences is to conduct research on the historical and geographical past and present of Transcarpathia, as well as on the region’s natural and social processes. A key focus of the Centre is the study of the history and cultural heritage of Hungarians in Transcarpathia. The Research Centre operates within the framework of the Department of History and Social Sciences of the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University.
Main Research Areas
- Historical Research: The Centre’s researchers focus on various periods of Transcarpathian and Hungarian history, including the Rakoczi era, the 19th and 20th centuries, church history, and the history of the Holocaust in the region.
- Geographical and Social Studies: Research in this field covers settlement and historical geography, as well as the analysis of social and economic processes in Transcarpathia.
Archaeology: The Centre also engages in archaeological research, exploring the ancient history and material heritage of the region
