Activities

The Puskás Tivadar Centre of Informatics is a service, development, and educational unit of the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University. In alignment with the interests and needs of the entire institution, the Centre:

  • Operates, maintains, and continuously develops the university’s IT and telecommunications networks and systems, including hardware and software components, using both internal resources and external partners.
  • Ensures optimal operating conditions for all university networks and systems.
  • Participates in troubleshooting and resolving technical problems as they arise.
  • Submits proposals to university leadership regarding IT and telecommunications developments and prepares them for decision-making.
  • Contributes to the planning of new IT systems, proposing their optimal environment based on professional criteria and local conditions.
  • Manages, directs, coordinates, and supports tasks related to Internet services, electronic mail, virus protection, and the installation and maintenance of office software.
  • Provides every member of the university with a username and e-mail address.
  • Organizes IT orientation and basic training for first-year students.
  • Arranges consultative and further training sessions as needed.
  • Represents the university in IT and telecommunications matters at professional forums and negotiations.
  • Maintains contact with specialized institutions.

The Puskás Tivadar Centre of Informatics manages the university’s IT network and computer systems. Daily, system users access more than 300 personal computers and nearly 80 laptops. Of these, 158 personal computers are located in classrooms and are freely available to students.

The university features a campus-wide broadband network, both wired and wireless (WiFi). Wired connections offer speeds of 100 or 1000 Mbps, supported by 42 manageable network switches, including central switches with 10 Gbps ports. Wireless coverage is provided by nearly 70 centrally managed Ubiquiti UniFi access points.

IT services at the university are provided through Unix-based systems. The institution operates 16 physical servers, along with 24 additional virtual servers running on four virtualization platforms. The Centre maintains two high-speed optical Internet connections.

The standard operating system on personal computers is Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, except in the network laboratory, where Ubuntu Linux is used. The university holds educational licenses for Windows 10 Pro and Office Professional Plus.

Student Information Center (HIK)

The Student Information Center (HIK) is located on the second floor of the main building of the University of Rakoczi. It is open on weekdays (Monday–Friday) from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is supervised by a lab assistant.

The computers in the HIK are available to any student who can verify their student status. Students are provided with a university e-mail address, webmail access, and Internet use. Printing and digitization of paper-based documents are also available.

A total of 32 computers are available in the HIK. Additionally, there are 24 computers in the library’s reading room, periodical reading room, and fiction lending section; 8 computers in the library corridor; and 126 computers in specialized classrooms. All computers have Internet access.
