International scientific and professional conference at the University of Rakoczi (Video)

On October 8–9, 2025, the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University hosted the international scientific and professional conference entitled The role of security in cross-border and international cooperation.

The announced topics of the conference brought together representatives of the academic community from more than 20 higher education institutions. The event was attended by 170 participants from Kyiv, Pereiaslav, Odesa, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Chernivtsi, as well as from foreign institutions, including Mathias Corvinus Collegium (Hungary), University of Prešov (Slovakia), University of Rzeszów (Poland), Üsküdar University (Turkey), Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and its North University Centre in Baia Mare (Romania). Welcoming speeches were delivered by:

  • Imre Szakál, Vice-Rector for Research and Education Quality at the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor;
  • Vitalii Kotsur, Rector of the Hryhorii Skovoroda University in Pereiaslav, Member of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor;
  • Miroslava Lengyel, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work at the Uzhhorod National University, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor;
  • Ingrid Turisz, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work at the Mukachevo State University, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor;
  • István Gyebnár, Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Consulate of Hungary in Beregszász;
  • Miklós Jusztin, Consul of the Consulate of Hungary in Beregszász;
  • Gratian-Florin Pirvu, Consul of the Consulate of Romania in Solotvyno;
  • Ilham Mirac, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor at Üsküdar University (Istanbul, Turkey);
  • Jadwiga Dasikowska-Tóbiás, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy at the University of Rzeszów, Professor;
  • György Peleh, Habilitated Doctor, Professor at the Department of School and Media Studies, University of Rzeszów;
  • Beáta Dobsa, Director of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium Educational Centre in Beregszász.

The professional meeting was honoured by the presence of: Svitlana Mitriaieva, Honorary President of the Center for Regional Risk Analysis, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Doctor of Philosophy, Academician of the Academy of Political and Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Merited Scientist and Industrialist of Ukraine, and Honorary Dame of the Order of Princess Olha; and Bence Gombor, Consul of the Consulate General of Hungary in Uzhhorod.

The plenary sessions were enriched by a number of distinguished speakers:

  • Miron Pacai, Deputy Head for Administrative and Technical Work at the Education Development Centre of the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional State and Military Administration. Presentation topic: Current challenges in cyberspace.
  • Ralph Gert Sellhammer, Doctor of Philosophy, Head of the Centre for Applied History and International Relations Theory at Mathias Corvinus Collegium (Budapest, Hungary). Presentation topic: Security as a state of mind.
  • Ihor Todorov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor at the Department of International Studies and Social Communication, Uzhhorod National University. Presentation topic: Security challenges facing central and Eastern European countries in light of the second term of U.S. President Donald Trump.
  • Marianna Marusynets, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of History and Social Sciences, Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University, Senior Research Fellow at the Tivadar Lehoczky Social Sciences Research Centre. Presentation topic: Ireland’s foreign and security policy amid the transformation of the international order.
  • Ivan Havryl, Member of the Regional Staff of the Dzhura Youth Military-Patriotic Game. Presentation topic: Shield of the Carpathians: student years in the shadow of conscription.

The conference was jointly organised by the Department of History and Social Sciences (International Relations Programme) and the Department of Mathematics and Informatics of the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University, together with the Department of System Software and the Department of International Studies and Social Communication of the Uzhhorod National University.

The two-day event provided participants with an opportunity to discuss current issues of cybersecurity, national and international security, and to exchange experiences in the field of cross-border and international cooperation.

Such conferences serve not only as platforms for academic discussion but also as important venues for developing practical strategies, promoting mutual understanding, and strengthening stability and trust.

Workshops for students were conducted by the following distinguished lecturers:

  • Beáta Barcsi, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology, Mukachevo State University, member of the Ukrainian Security Psychology Centre NGO. Presentation topic: Balance of awareness: digital literacy and psychological security.
  • Ladiszlav Pompel, Chairman of the Youth Council of the Transcarpathian Regional State and Military Administration. Presentation topic: Young people of Transcarpathia – the driving force of regional development. How can students contribute to the growth of the community and the region?
