Participation of a Professor of Accounting and Auditing in an International Training in Oxford

From 19 to 24 January 2026,  Nina Poyda-Nosyk, Professor of the Department of Accounting and Auditing at the University of Rakoczi, took part in the international training “University Press Publishing for Ukraine”, held in Oxford, United Kingdom.

The training “University Press Publishing for Ukraine: Policy and Practice” served as a unique platform for professional dialogue and the exchange of experience between the Ukrainian and international academic publishing communities. The event brought together 18 delegates from Ukraine, including members of editorial boards of scholarly journals, vice-rectors for research, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and leaders of research and educational projects who directly shape academic publishing policies within their institutions.

The training programme covered key aspects of contemporary university and academic publishing, including the scholarly publishing landscape, the role of publishers in the peer review system, the development and management of academic book lists, editorial processes and workflows, issues of academic integrity and publication ethics, the application of artificial intelligence in scholarly publishing, open access, state support for academic publishers, as well as the marketing and distribution of academic journals and books. Particular attention was paid to digital transformation, metadata, the long-term preservation of scholarly content, and the strategic development of university presses in an international context. The programme combined expert presentations, panel discussions, case studies, and practical discussions with leading professionals in the field.

The training featured distinguished speakers representing key international organizations and publishing houses in the field of academic and university publishing, including Oxford International Publishing Centre (OIPC) and Oxford Brookes University; Oxford University Press (OUP); Cambridge University Press; Princeton University Press (Europe); UCL Press (University College London Press); Liverpool University Press; Springer; Taylor & Francis (T&F); STM – the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers; Crossref; Research Libraries UK (RLUK); UK Research and Innovation (UKRI); COPIM (Community-led Open Publication Infrastructures for Monographs); TBI Communications; and Ingram Content Group, a global leader in book distribution and printing, among others. The participation of representatives from these organisations ensured a high expert level of the training, combining strategic perspectives with practical case studies and familiarising Ukrainian participants with the best international practices in academic publishing.

A particularly memorable highlight of the training was a visit to Ingram, one of the world’s largest book distribution and printing centres. The Ukrainian delegation received a warm welcome from members of the local Ukrainian community, who greeted them with traditional bread and salt and Ukrainian songs, creating a special atmosphere of unity and support. Participants had the opportunity to tour Ingram’s production facilities and explore state-of-the-art printing technologies, including the Print-on-Demand model, which enables the rapid production of books on demand, reduces costs, and enhances the global accessibility of scholarly publications.

Overall, the training not only strengthened the participants’ professional competencies but also contributed to the expansion of international networks, the development of a shared vision for the future of Ukrainian academic publishing, and Ukraine’s integration into the global scholarly publishing landscape.

We express our sincere gratitude to Hanna Kharlamova, Frances Pinter, Byron Russell, and Angus Phillips for the impeccable organisation of the training and the invitation to participate, to all the British host families who warmly welcomed the Ukrainian delegation into their homes, and to the entire team of participants who found the time and opportunity to travel and take part in this important event.
